Tool Time!
As a jewelry artist you’re going to need some tools! Here a some of my favorites that I use and recommend. You do NOT have to buy the most expensive tools, especially when you are just starting out. The two most important things are comfort and buying tools without “teeth” that would scratch up your metal.
I find a good BEADING AWL indispensable to get into tiny nooks and crannies of my wire weaving. This one is by far more superior than any I have every bought in a craft store. It’s sharp and thin and is great for opening up spaces in my wire when needed.
A good STEEL RING MANDREL is great not only for shaping rings but also to shape curves into wire. The markings on the side are prefect to make sure you are bending at the same place every time. Also, since it’s metal you can hammer on this to shape and work harden rings.
I use CROSS LOCKING TWEEZERS to place granules and solder when fusing or soldering because they are built with withstand the heat. They are also great to grab and hold onto small items and beads. I have several of these, they always seem to disappear on me!
